Health insurance deadlineHave you signed up for your 2014 health insurance yet? The March 31 deadline for Open Enrollment for the Affordable Care Act and private insurance policies is quickly approaching, and being covered is important.If you do not already have health insurance for 2014, then you may be in trouble come April. After March 31, individual health insurance will not be available for purchase until Open Enrollment opens again on November 15.Exceptions to this deadline include major life events such as losing your job, moving or getting married. Additionally, certain public programs, like Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, do not adhere to the March 31 deadline.Make sure to do your research on what plan is best for you privately or under the Affordable Care Act, which has platinum, gold, silver and bronze plans available. It’s important to choose the right one that will give you the right amount of coverage.If you miss the deadline and do not encounter any of the listed exceptions, you will end up paying a fee for not having health insurance. Depending on your annual income, you could end up paying one percent of your income or approximately $95 for you and additional fees for children.
